What a nice gift, a book of short stories for a short story lover.  Daniel Griffin is a new talent and one to watch.  He has set his writing pulse in synch with family life and produced insightful stories that zing on the page.

Some of the stories have appeared in my favourite Can Lit mags such as Prairie Fire and the New Quarterly.

 In 2011, the prize brought on a new sponsor and was relaunched as the Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction, upping the winner's purse to $60,000.

I see you have some Canadian comics on your site.  I highly suggest Michel  Rabagliati.There are several of his books in  the library.  He writes/draws touching, funny, honest stories that are  semi-autobiographical.  Also very Canadian.
