McVicar's Creek, by Margaret R. Cunningham
Warmed by the sun on an early spring day
We followed the sound of water
Trickling under the ice and
In a brilliant frozen universe,
Discovered the ice-crystal cave.
Scrunched down and wiggling,
We inched out way into the light-filled cavern,
Awe-struck by the gleaming icicles
Dripping from above.
The sound of water beneath us
Running, skipping, singing.
the music of the waters
A liquid refrain.
Bubble wrapped by time,
The memories come
Memories of Thunder Bay, Ont. Circa 1940-42
