The Dream Comes True
Welcome Elizabeth Ruth to an e-Thunder Bay. At last, after almost a year of effort, the Northwestern Ontario Writers' Workshop, or NOWW, the largest writers' group in Thunder Bay has arranged for an e-writer in residence, Elizabeth Ruth. Their announcement follows:

From now until December, Northwestern Ontario-based writers and all NOWW members in good standing may submit their writing for an in-depth, critical review by Toronto’s Elizabeth Ruth.

Editor Wanted
NOWW is looking for new editors for our magazine. And as we change editors, we are also open to fresh approaches for the publication, including different formats and changes in style.
The editors will be in charge of soliciting and editing copy. They will also be responsible for the layout and design of the magazine, and for arranging printing. There will be three issues per year, in September, January, and June.
NOWW will provide a budget for writing and artwork, as well as for printing. The editor(s) will receive an honorarium of $170 per issue ($510 for the year.)

NOWW in Dryden!
NOWW writing workshops coming to DRYDEN
Attention NOWW members! If you are in or near Dryden, or feeling like a beautiful long drive through our gorgeous country, come to the Dryden Public Library on Saturday June 18th for two free writing workshops given by NOWW members Mike Laverty and Jenny Morrow. The workshops will focus on writing, with lots of prompts, with a discussion near the end about writing from Northwestern Ontario (specifically Sunset Country), resources and next steps.
Schedule:
Workshop 1: 10am-noon
Brown bag lunch with local author readings: noon-2pm
Workshop 2: 2-4pm
Please help us promote the workshop to your friends in the region! If you live in or near Dryden (/Kenora/Sioux Lookout/Vermillion Bay/Ignace, etc.) and are interested in reading from your work, please contact me. We are keen to celebrate the writers in our remote but beautiful part of NWO!

Celebrate Literature and Writing in Northwestern Ontario
The Annual Literary Awards
NOWW is proud to host the annual Literary Awards Party and Fundraising event on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 7 to 10:30 p.m.at the Current River Community Center, 450 Dewe Street, Thunder Bay.

NOWW’s New Postcard Story Challenge - Hammer Down.
NOWW Magazine challenges NOWW members to write a dramatic, snappy postcard story (250 – 500 words long, not including the title) that relates to the idea of a hammer. The relationship can be as tangential as you like, so long as there is some connection to “hammer.” Deadline: April 30, 2011
Send your submission(s) to noww.editors@gmail.com as an attachment. Please include your name and contact information. Submissions should be in standard formatting, in Times New Roman 12 pt font; no headers or footers please. We will publish the cleverest, liveliest, most surprising submissions in the Summer edition of NOWW Magazine.Writers of stories published will bepaid an honorarium.
Open to NOWW members only. If you are not a member, join today at nowwwriters.org.

Position Available with Northwestern Ontario Writers Workshop (NOWW)
Job Description - Administrator
Duties
In consultation with the executive of NOWW, the Administrator will undertake the following tasks:
1/ help to organize NOWW’s year-end celebration, including arranging the venue and managing ticket sales for the event
2/ help to organize NOWW’s annual writing contest, including recruiting judges and answering queries from the public
3/ help to produce NOWW’s thrice-yearly newsletter, including arranging printing and distribution
4/ maintain a computerized list of NOWW members and print mailing labels as required
5/ maintain a computerized record of NOWW policies, procedures, reports, and correspondence, as provided by the executive
6/ assist in publicizing NOWW events to the public, the media, and its own members, through the preparation and distribution of PSA’s, posters, and information e-mails
7/ maintain the NOWW website, including an up-to-date listing of events and contest information
8/ co-ordinate the intake of memberships through the NOWW website
9/ in consultation with the executive, undertake other projects such as applying for grants or seeking sponsorships
Conditions of Work
The administrator will be expected to provide his/her own workspace and office equipment, including a computer, a printer, an internet connection, basic computer software (MS Office), and a telephone, and to pay for routine office expenses. The use of a vehicle will be required on an infrequent basis. The administrator will report to the president of NOWW, or, in his/her absence, another designated member of the executive.
Salary and Hours
This is a part-time contract position lasting 10 months at an average of 30 hours per month. The contract will run from September, 2008 to June, 2009. The pay will be $15 per hour, plus a $70 per month contribution towards office upkeep and expenses, and the infrequent use of a vehicle.
Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate a responsible, conscientious attitude towards work, and the ablility to function with limited supervision. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with MS Excel, are required. Experience dealing with the public and a volunteer executive would be a definite asset. An entrepreneurial attitude would also be a strong asset. Experience in website maintenance would be helpful.

KOUHI AWARD
Who will be the 10th recipient of NOWW’s Kouhi Award?
Deadline for Nominations is April 1st!
The Kouhi Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the literature of Northwestern Ontario. The Kouhi Award committee considers the quantity and quality of the nominee's work, as well as the person's contribution to the growth & development of writing in Northwestern Ontario. The award is named in honour of writer Elizabeth Kouhi, who has published more than twelve books of poetry and children's fiction.
Previous winners have been Elizabeth Kouhi, Elinor Barr, Charles Wilkins, Thunder Bay Writers Guild, Rosalind Maki, Penny Petrone, Mary Frost, Jean E. Pendziwol and Dorothy Colby.
The nominee must be living, but need not currently live in Thunder Bay or region. The nominee does not have to be a member of NOWW.
Anyone may make a nomination. Nominations must include a one-page letter outlining the nominee's accomplishments, his/her contributions to the literature of Northwestern Ontario, and the name(s) and address(es) and phone number(s) of the nominator(s).
The recipient of the Kouhi award will be announced at NOWW's year-end celebration on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Prince Arthur Hotel at 7:00 p.m.

February Plus
Love, love, love. NOWW February readings spotlight L-O-V-E. February 20 at the fireside room at Brodie at 7 p.m. Free to all. Readings by Deborah deBakker, Robyn Lewis, Bob Hoffman. Step up to the mike with a short poem.
On the other side of town the Writers’ Circle will share ideas on authors’ bios. Bring a brief bio of your favourite. Waverley at 7 p.m. of February 27, 2008.
Women Fully Clothed arrive in Thunder Bay. I saw this comedy review in Toronto with a couple of Thunder Bay cronies and yes, we laughed! Five Canadian comedy artists touch nerves and funny bones at the Community Auditorium on April 17 at 8 pm.
