Rocket Fish for adults.
Trying to Blog with a new knee. A bend in the bionic. The joint starts jumping and not in a good way either. Fingers fly, sending typos flitting here and there, Blogger swears and not for the first time. Then you find, deep in the unread e mails, a note from award-winning writer and illustrator, Duncan Weller. Oh no! Late but here it is. Sorry Duncan. Wish I could go and see the show but I can only get as far as the front door. But What a great idea all round. I wish you every success. And big big congrats on the Chalmer's Fellowship Award.
Hello Joan!
Hello Joan!
You are invited to Rocket Fish! This is an art show with a book launch. The opening for the art show and launch for the book of short stories for adults, Rocket Fish, will take place at 7pm Friday, December 9, at Folino's Superette on Algoma (next to Red Earth and the Bean Fiend). The show will be ongoing through December.
Duncan is also using the night to celebrate receiving the Chalmer's Fellowship Award of $15,000.00 to do research in Africa for one of his children's picture books, Tiger Dream. A few images from this book will be at the show.
Hope to see you there!
Best,
Duncan

Local Book Bonanza
I dropped into the Finnish Book Store and picked up Charlie Wilkin's latest - The Wild Ride: A History of the North West Mounted Police 1873 - 1904. Full of original photos maps and drawings as well as Wilkin's wonderful prose, this book sits on the top of my reading pile.
Elle Andra-Warner
I also bought David Thompson: A Life of Adventure and Discovery, by Elle Andrea- Warner. The book is part of the Amazing Stories series and outlines the life of one of our greatest explorers. It opens with the song Map of Dream's by Rodney Brown. This is a fit-in-your-purse book, great for travel.I have a couple of good friends, 6 and 4 years old. For Christmas, the four-year-old, Sam, gets Duncan Weller's Boy from the Sun, a book every child should have. I am introducing Emily to Tove Jansson, or rather the world of the Moomins created by the great Finnish children's writer, Tove Jansson.I picked the book Finn Family Moomintroll to start. From now on I'll have no trouble selecting birthday or Christmas presents. All kids love the Moomin books.

Duncan Weller wants to sell your book....
To whom it may concern! I'm organizing ART ZOOM this year. It takes place on Saturday, December 5, from 5PM to 9PM. I am looking for writers to sell their books! Especially if they would like to have a book launch then, that would be awesome as there will be over 300 people passing through the retail outlets in downtown Port Arthur. I've got over 20 visual artists signed up already and lots of places to place people. There is a fee of $15.00 to participate. Forms can be downloaded from www.artzoom.ca or picked up in my gallery space at 12 St. Paul St. around the corner from the Painted Turtle. Anyone signing up should send me either a photo image of themselves or the cover of their book. Please make the image 300KB or smaller. It must be a jpeg.
Thanks so much. Please spread the word. The sooner the better as I'm planning to put the images into the poster which will go up next week some time.
