Launch of Two Books by Emerson Street Press

Heather Murchison, partner at Emmerson Street Press holds up new book, The Truth Ratio, by short fiction writer John Pringle

As most of Thunder Bay knows, John Pringle is one hell of a good writer. The winner of many contests, he has been published in Ten Stories High and NOWW Magazine. On Thursday, October 10, John read from his newly published story collection, The Truth Ratio published by Emmerson Street Press on Thunder Bay.

John read a short story that starts, " I was staring at a blank page, when I heard the splash of a paddle and saw Earnest Hemmingway tying his canoe to the dock." The overarching theme of his stores, he said was "telling the truth and why that is often so hard". Later  John told me later he submitted thirty five stories to  Emmerson who chose fourteen for this, his first book.

Douglas Livingstone is a well known Thunder Bay poet and his new book Myoclonus continues his intriguing mix of French surrealism tempered with the Beats. Doug's poems are filled with intriguing imagery.

Vince Ponka of Emmerson Street Press

Publisher Vince Ponka has an exalted  mission for  Emmerson Street Press. "My goal,"he says, "is to bring Northwestern Ontario to the world."  He has received close to a thousand submissions  so far. Nevertheless, he invited the audience to submit their work. The books are smallish, in my view a good thing, and feel very comfortable in the hand. The covers are plain, perhaps too plain to attract a book store clientele. But every great venture starts with first steps. En Avant, Emmerson Street Press.
