OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL WRITERS!!

Dear Lit-tbay blogger. This spring I took advantage of NOWW's offer to have our writer in residence, Kathryn Kuitenbrouwer, critique 25 pages of my novel in progress, The Canadian Suffragette. Free. This was a very rewarding experience. I learned a lot. After many years writing short stories, I was empowered to move into the novel form. NOWW is offering a somewhat similar experience, a master class with Kim Moritsugu. I urge anyone who has a work in progress, fiction, memoir, non-fiction of short story, to take advantage. It is a scary prospect but your writing will benefit. Moritsugu is a brilliant writer and much sought after teacher at the Humber School of Writers. And at 20$, cheap like borsch!

Dear NOWW members.
We are offering you a unique learning opportunity with author Kim Moritsugu. On Monday, October 29, 2018, Kim will be holding a masterclass for up to 10 participants at 7 pm at the Waverly Auditorium.

The fee for NOWW members is $20 dollars and you must submit your “First Page” to admin@nowwwriters.ca by Oct. 22 so Kim can review it before the class. Also, your submission will be shared electronically with all the other class members prior to the event. This will facilitate class discussion. First page document submitted should not include the writer’s name, but should specify the genre of the work (fiction type or narrative non-fiction/memoir) and intended audience (adult or YA).
See below for more details.

Master Class - The First Page of the Story
The first page of your story is the make-it-or-break-it page that will either entice a reader (or agent or editor) onward, or give them a reason to stop reading and put the story aside (no, not that!).
At this master class workshop, open to a maximum of 10 participants, author Kim Moritsugu will review the key elements of a strong beginning, lead some short in-class scene-starting exercises, and give detailed feedback on one first page per participant, to be submitted in advance and made available to all participants for review during the workshop.

Kim Moritsugu is the author of seven novels to date, including Looks Perfect, a romantic comedy shortlisted for the Toronto Book Award; The Glenwood Treasure, a mystery shortlisted for the Arthur Ellis Best Novel award; and The Oakdale Dinner Club, a suburban comedy of manners. Her latest, The Showrunner, a darkly humourous work of suspense about three strong-willed women working in television production, has been optioned for development as a TV series.
Kim also writes TV show recaps online as The Hungry Novelist, and is a longtime faculty member of Toronto’s Humber School for Writers.
