Off to Winnipeg last week to hear Sally Armstrong talk about her book, Ascent of Women. Sally is a human rights activist, journalist and author. She has covered stories of girls and women in conflict zones around the world.  But, surprisingly and happily, her message was upbeat. The world is turning and in many countries women are making it happen.

She spoke about women as change makers, courageous and outspoken, using the courts and any means possible to protest violence against women or honour killing, or genital cutting or barriers to education.  She sees the darkness of women's lives being lifted in many places.

The book is available by order at Northern Women's Bookstore and at Chapters.  An inspiring read from a woman who has won many awards for her courageous journalism.

Sally Armstrong.
